Geography of Nepal

Nepal is a landlocked country devious between 800 4'- 800 12' east longitude and 260 22'- 300 4' north latitude. The total area contains 147,181 sq. km. Nepal is surrounded by the Tibet, an independent Region of China, to the north and India in the east,west and south. The country is rectangular in shape, about 885 km long boarded by Mechi River in east and Mahakali River in west and about 200 km tall from south to north.

History of Nepal

Modern Nepal was joined by Prithvi Narayan Shah King of Gorkha. Before the union, Nepal was ruled by different Kirats, Lichchavis, Thakuris and Mallas. The history mentioned that Kirats ruled was in Nepal during the 7th century BC. Though out much was not known about Kirats,the Lichchavi period followed the Kirats which lasted from the 2nd to 9th century AD. Nepal was also ruled by the Thakuris who were followed by the Mallas for two centuries after The Lichchavis. Nepal was divided into many principalities and small kingdoms in the fifth centuries of Malla rule, those kingdoms have their own currency, management and large armies. Malla period is known as golden period and it was in the reign of the Mallas that Nepal developed into a grand center of architecture and arts.

Most of the people in Nepal welcome you by “Namaste” as a traditional greeting (means I salute the great in you) which is widely used in the most part of the country. About 27 million Nepalese peoples have more than 70 different cultural and linguistic groups which is also known as ethnic groups living in different, regions of the country Nepal. Mostly every ethnic group has their own exclusive costumes, speak their own languages or talk, and follow their own religious practices. They live in different diverse geographic and ecological orientations, from the low parts near the Indian border, northward throughout the middle hills of Mahabharat Range and valleys, and up to the high of the Himalayan zone.

Climate and Weather

Nepal has various climates with its scenery. It ranges from hot to cold depending on the elevation. The Terai region, which lies in the tropical southern area of the country, for example, has a hot, humid climate. The mid-land (Mountain Region) is pleasant almost all year around, even though winter morning and nights are cool. The northern (Himalayan) Region, around an altitude above 3,353 meters has an alpine climate with a significantly lower warmth and thin air in winter as can be predictable.

Best time to trek in Nepal
